3040.1: Leave for Certified Employees
Sick Leave
Certified employees, other than the Administrator, are eligible to receive paid sick leave days, subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein.
A full-time certified employee shall receive fifteen sick days on the first day of such employee's first contract year. Once sick leave days are accrued, they may be carried forward from year to year. On the first day of each contract year after a full-time certified employee's first contract year, such employee shall be awarded the lesser of (a) fifteen sick leave days or (b) the number of sick leave days which will bring the employee's accumulated sick leave to seventy days. In no event shall a full-time certified employee accrue more than seventy sick days.
A part-time certified employee with a full-time equivalency (FTE) of more than .50, shall receive sick leave days equal to the product of (a) the number of sick leave days the part-time employee would be entitled to receive if he or she were full-time, multiplied by (b) the part-time certified employee's FTE.
Certified employees with an FTE of .50 or less shall not receive paid sick leave days.
Sick leave days may only be used for the following reasons: (a) when the employee is too ill to work; (b) when a member of the employee's immediate family is too ill to be left alone and the employee is needed to care for the family member; and (c) bereavement when approved by the Administrator. The Administrator or the employee's immediate supervisor may require the employee to provide written proof, satisfactory to the Administrator or immediate supervisor, of the employee's need to use sick leave.
In no event shall any certified employee be compensated for any unused sick leave.
Personal Leave
Certified employees, other than the Administrator, are eligible to receive paid personal leave days, subject to the terms and conditions set forth herein.
On the first day of the first year of employment, certified employees with an FTE of .50 or more will be awarded two personal leave days per contract year and certified employees with an FTE of less than .50 will be awarded one personal leave day per contract year. On the first day of each contract year after a certified employee's first contract year, such employee shall be awarded the lesser of (a) 1 or 2 personal leave days (as applicable based upon FTE) or (b) the number of personal leave days which will bring the employee's accumulated personal leave to 1 or 2 personal leave days (as applicable based upon FTE). In no event shall a .50 or greater FTE certified employee accrue more than two personal days. In no event shall a .50 or less FTE certified employee accrue more than one personal day. Certified employees will be paid their calculated daily rate (per day) for unused personal leave upon termination of employment.
Personal leave days must be requested by the employee and approved by the Administrator and the employee's immediate supervisor at least 24 hours before the day the employee plans to be absent. Days of Personal Leave granted shall exclude the first day of school and before or after a holiday. The Administrator or the employee's immediate supervisor may disapprove an employee's use of personal/vacation leave if either of them determines that such use will interfere with the position expectations of the employee; or cause disruption of services provided by the service unit.
For certificated staff who qualify for non-contract days, personal days must be exhausted prior to using non-contract days.
